All classes sold at greatly increased rates, way above seller’s expectations. Many more lambs could have been sold to advantage and will be wanted next week. The trade of the day was definitely the lighter end of the scale.
1176 prime lambs sold to average 224.4 (SQQ 228.0). Topping the sale today was heavyweight Texels from Messrs Sheddan, Balgerran, Crossmichael at £112. Topping the pence per kilo, was smart Texels from Messrs Armstrong, Farhills, Auchencairn at 257.1ppk. Blackface lambs featured heavily in the sale today, these topping at £94 from Messrs Hoggan, Maryholm. Top price per kilo being 239.1 for a pen of lightweights from Messrs Ferguson, Markdhu, New Luce.
Cast ewes were sharper again with Messrs Craik, Bankswood, topping with a Texel ewe at £165. Scotch Mules sold to £90 from Balannan, Ringford and Blackfaces to £76.50 from Messrs Lockhart of Culdoach.
