Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 9th February 2021 had some 2336 prime and cast sheep forward.
1923 Prime hoggs sold to average 268.7 ppk (SQQ 270.4). All classes of hoggs were easily sold and in most instances, sharper on the week. Best bred hoggs were in short supply with these topping at 354.5 pence per kilo for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Walker, Mindork, Kirkcowan. Topping the sale was heavy weight Suffolks at £138.50 from Messrs Frame, Burnside, Strathaven.
A tremendous show of 718 Blackface hoggs were forward, with 453 hoggs scaling over 39 kg averaging 262 and 265 hoggs under 39 kg averaging 253 ppk. They topped overall at £122.50 for a pen of nailers from Barlure Farmers, New Luce. With a pen of export weight hoggs from Messrs McTurk, Barlaes topping the pence per kilo at 268.4.
413 Cast ewes sold away at comparable rates with Messrs Adams & Son, Torhousekie, topping with a Beltex ewe at £141 with Scotch Mules selling to £101 from the same home. Blackfaces sold to £80 from Messrs Armstrong, High Barcaple.
