Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 14th July 2020 had forward 1569 prime and cast sheep.
1171 prime lambs sold to average 230.95 (SQQ 231.44)
Lambs were again a fine trade for all classes and dearer than expected. Top today was £114 and 285ppk for outstanding Beltex lambs from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, Balmaclellan, with a further 18 pens (93 lambs) selling over 250ppk. Heavy lambs sold to £110 for Texels from Messrs Roddan, Longbeoch. More mules were forward and were easily sold selling to £98 twice firstly for heavy lambs from Messrs Wallace, Hannaston, Dalry then for export weights from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, with heavyweights selling to 232.9 for a pen from Messrs Kevan, Blackpark, Leswalt.
More lambs are required of all weights each week to satisfy the demand here at Wallets with trade week on week exceeding our expectations.
A fine show of 398 cast sheep were a flyer with newly weaned ewes filling the most of the entry selling to £125 for Texels from Upper Hardland with Rams to £119 for Texels from Garrochtrie, Port Logan.
As of Monday 20th July, vendors are allowed entry to the Market – only at the ringside to sell their stock and we look forward to seeing you.
