Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 25 February 2020 had forward 1588 prime and cast sheep.
1361 Prime hoggs sold to average 232.1 (SQQ 235.2). A sound trade prevailed with an average of £100.81 for the whole sale – the first time this season that the £100 barrier has been broken. Top today was £130 for a pen of heavy Suffolks from Messrs McTurk, Mackilston, Dalry. 143 hoggs scaled over 52kgs and averaged a staggering £119.60 and top per kg was 254.5 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Picken, Galtway, Kirkcudbright. Lightweight hoggs were a flyer peaking at 250ppk from Messrs Ramsay, Knockreoch for a pen of Blackface hoggs.
503 Blackface hoggs sold today averaging 233.2, topping at £114 for heavyweights from Messrs Ramsay, Milnmark, Dalry. Export weight hoggs sold to 241.4 from Messrs Lockhart, Culdoach
227 Cast sheep were well short of requirements and sold at levels not seen in recent years topping at £167 for Texel cross ewes from Breconside with Mules selling to £120.50 from Merrick, Portpatrick and Blackface ewes selling to £94.50 from West Culvennan.
