Wallets Marts Weekly Primestock Sale Tuesday 30th June 2020

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 30th June 2020 had forward 1134 prime and cast sheep.

A tremendous show of 1071 prime lambs were forward averaging 235.15 (SQQ 235.26)

Again, trade was ahead of expectations with the sale only fractionally back on last weeks flyer.  With lambs coming ready sooner numbers were up 23% on the corresponding day last year and more importantly were £16.08 up on the year.

A wonderful show of lambs were forward with 178 lambs (18 pens) selling over 250ppk to a top of 277.4 for a pen of 19 Beltex lambs from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, Balmaclellan.  Heavy lambs were in short supply and sold to £121 for Texels from Messrs Brown, Drumcoltran, Kirkgunzeon with Scotch Mules to £100 and 227.3ppk for a pen from Auchecairn Farms, Auchenfad, Auchencairn.

A small show of cast sheep were easily sold selling to £125 for Texel rams from Auchefad.

If you have cast sheep to go, I would advise you to sell as this surge in trade may well be short term.  Overfat, although sharper, is still the hardest to sell, but if they are fit and you are thinking of weaning please don’t hold onto them.
