 Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 2^nd February 2021 had some 2273 prime and cast sheep forward.

 

1986 Prime hoggs sold to average 263 ppk (SQQ 265). All hoggs were a flying trade and better on the week with well fleshed hoggs of all weights easily sold. Messrs Ross, Birchwood Way topped the pence per kilo at 336.3 with a pen of 5 super Beltex hoggs. Heavy weights sold to £138.50 for Texels from Messrs Heuchan, Townhead of Greenlaw also for Texels from Messrs Nicholson, Bombie.

 

A tremendous show of 796 Blackface hoggs were forward, with 518 hoggs scaling over 39 kg averaging 261.7 and 278 hoggs under 39 kg averaging 247 ppk. They topped overall at £125 for a pen of heavyweights from Messrs Ross, Birchwood Way. With a pen of 31 export weight hoggs from Messrs W Graham & Son, Craigdarroch topping the pence per kilo at 272.6.

 

344 Cast ewes sold away at comparable rates with Messrs Clark, Airyolland, Port William, topping with a Beltex ewe at £127. Scotch Mules sold to £92.50 from Messrs Black, Erncrogo and Blackfaces to £81.50 from J O McTurk, Mackilston, Dalry.
