STORE LAMBS

 

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on 5th November 2016 had forward a small show of store lambs which were well short of buyer’s requirements.  Topping today at £68.50 was a pen of Beltex from Messrs Cowan East Lanegate, Parkgate.

STORE CATTLE, BREEDING CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of Store, Breeding and OTM Cattle on Monday 7th November, 2016 when they sold 283 Cattle.

A mixed offering of store cattle met with a selective trade.  Good quality stirks easily maintained recent rates whilst older cattle, especially those heading towards 30 months proved harder to cash.  Topping the sale at £1155 was an Aberdeen Angus bullock from RKG Farms, Irelandton.  Top price per kg was 227.6p paid jointly to Messrs R Jamieson, Garrochtrie for a pen of Limousin calves and then again to Messrs A Thomson & Co, Shirmers for a pen of Charolais calves.  Heifers sold to £1135 for Charolais crosses from Straith Estates, Dunscore and to 215.9p per kg for Charolais crosses from A Thomson & Co, Shirmers.  Averages settles at 188.4p for bullocks and 182p per kg for heifers.

A small show of breeding cattle sold to £1200 for AA/Fries in calf heifers from Messrs Ritchie, Fardingjames, Auldgirth.

54 OTM Cattle once again met a strong trade with plenty of competition round the ringside.  Topping the trade at 178ppk was a Simmental overage heifer from Palmallet Farms.  Overage bullocks sold to 155ppkg for Galloways from Craigenputtock, Dunscore whilst cast cows topped at 131ppkg for a Simmental cross from Palmallet.  Bulls sold to 152ppkg for a Belted Galloway from Glen Farming Co.  Overall averages levelled at 109.98p.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 8th November 2016 had forward 1748 prime lambs and 457 cast sheep.

 

1748 prime lambs sold to average 166.4 (SQQ169.24)

 

A tremendous show of heavyweight lambs forward were a good trade all day topping at £90 for Texels from  Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, and also for Texels from West Kirkcarsewell Farming Co, Balmangan, Dundrennan.  Top price per kilo was 201.5p for a pen of tremendous Beltex lambs from Messrs Hiddleston, Newmains, Shawhead.  Again a heavy show of lambs were present with the whole sale averageing 45.65kgs.

 

457 cast sheep were no different on the week topping at £124 for a Suffolk ram from Carsewalloch with ewes topping at £87 for Suffolks from Redcroft, and Blackface topping at £48.50 from Ardoch.
