OTM, STORE CATTLE AND STORE LAMBS

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 17th February 2020 had forward 409 OTM and Store Cattle

 

393 Store cattle were a flyer and well short of requirements with several buyers leaving empty handed.  Leading todays sale was £1290 for a SimX heifer from Messrs Watson, Slatehouse, Moniaive and it was heifers that topped the ppk this time for a nailer of a CharolaisX at 293ppk from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland.  Overall the heifers levelled at 216.28ppk.

 

Leading the bullocks was a pen of Luings at £1205 from Messrs Black, Hillside whose whole consignment of Luing bullocks levelled at £1200.  Leading the ppk was a smart pen of LimousinX at 283.2 from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland.  Overall the bullocks levelled at 224.15.

 

Special mention to L Templeton, Ardachie, Kirkcowan for donating the price of a Limousin Bullock, £870, in aid of the brain tumour charity to honour the memory of her cousin who sadly passed last November.

 

Cast cows were short of requirements selling to 145ppk for a Luing from Hillside with SimX from the same home selling to £1132.45.

 

A small show of store lambs to finish this seasons Monday sales were a flyer again topping at £108 for Texels from Garroch Estate with Lleyns selling to £92 from Auchenbainzie.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 18 February 2020 had forward 1874 prime and cast sheep.

 

1502 hoggs sold to average 232.2 SQQ 235.8.  With a lot of consignments being the finish of this season.  That then reflected on a lesser average than last week whereas the reality of it good meated sheep were every bit as dear no matter the weight.

 

Top today was £129 for an outstanding Texel hogg from Messrs Lockhart, Culdoach.  Top per kilo was was 304.7 for a pen of cracking Beltex hoggs from Messrs Adams, Torhousekie, Wigtown.

 

Less Blackface hoggs about today sold to £107.50 for a smashing pen from Messrs McMiking, Mitonise with another pen from the same home fetching 240.1 to top the ppk.

 

449 cast sheep were a flyer and sharper again topping at £177 for an outstanding Texel from Garthlearie House, Stranraer.  Blackface ewes topped at £87.50 again travelling from Stranraer, this time from Drumbreddan.  Scotch Mule ewes sold to £104.50 for a pen from Cotland.
