STORE AND OTM CATTLE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 321 Store and OTM cattle on Monday 25^th March 2019.

 

290 Store cattle experienced a significant increase in trade with all classes being £50-£60 up on the last sale.  Topping the trade at £1400 or 301p per kg were a pen of outwintered Limousin cross heifers shown by RJ & D Skimming, Glenhowl.  Bullocks topped at £1300 for a pen of Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs T Robb, Trolane, Dalry.  Top price per kg in the bullock section was 245.6p paid to J Mair & Son, Bargatton for a pen of outwintered Charolais crosses.  Overall averages were 216.4p or £995.21 for bullocks (+ 9.4p on last sale) and 214.7p or £917.83 for heifers (+14.7p on last sale).  Yearling cattle topped at £1120 for 11 month old Charolais bullocks from Craigton and £1050 for 11 month old Charolais heifers from the same home.

 

OTM Cattle also experienced a big lift in trade topping at 196p per kg or £1021.16 for an overage heifer from Graplin Farms.  Cows sold to £1211.76 for a British Blue from Trolane and to 148p per kg for an Aberdeen Angus X from RKG Farms.  Overall average saw 31 cows average 134p per kg.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 26 March 2019 had forward 1317 Prime and Cast Sheep

 

The prime hoggs sold to average 180.4 (SQQ 192.28).  A mixed show of hoggs would be slightly cheaper on the week selling to £109 for Beltex hoggs from Messrs MacTaggart, Craigview.  Top per kg was 250ppk for Beltex from Messrs Adams, Torhousekie, Wigtown.

 

A small show of store hoggs sold to £80 from Straith Estate.

 

294 cast sheep were again a good trade selling to £109.50 for Texels from Byrecroft with Blackface to £67.50 from Barlaes.
