The New Year set off with a bang with store hoggs being as dear as were ever seen at Castle Douglas with pen after pen from £90 – £100 and all-in average of £74.23 for 1154 store hoggs forward. With something for everyone some buyers left empty handed and all left short of requirements.
Top today was £111 for Suffolks from Messrs Borland, Castlehill, Gelston
OTM Cattle sold to a top of £1251 for an Angus cow from Messrs Craig, Compstonend, Twynholm and to 143ppk from Messrs Wright, West Balscalloch

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 5th January 2021 had forward 2172 prime and cast sheep.
1977 prime hoggs were forward to average 240.36 (SQQ 243.9 or £99.66. All classes were a flyer selling to £124 for outstanding Beltex hoggs from Messrs Walker, Mindork. Top per kilo was 312.8 also for Beltex from Craigview. Blackface hoggs sold to £103.5 for a pen from Messrs Ramsay, Milnmark and to 246.9ppk from Messrs Gilligan, High Creoch.
Cast sheep were similar selling to £175 for a Texel from Messrs Black, Hillside. Scotch Mules to £91.50 from Barharrow.
