OTM CATTLE, STORE CATTLE AND STORE HOGGS
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 15th February 2021 had forward 553 OTM and Store Cattle.
536 Store cattle were an absolute cracking trade and well short of requirements with several buyers leaving empty handed. Leading todays sale was Messrs Robb, Trolane with an Aberdeen Angus bullock, selling to £1500. Leading the heifers was a Charolais heifer from Messrs Wilson, Kirkmabreck and a Salers heifer from Messrs Kerr, Fagra, both selling to £1280. Topping the pence per kilo, was a pen of Charolais heifers at 310.0 from Messrs J Mair, Bargatton, Laurieston. A feature of this sale was a wonderful run of 10 month old Charolais x cattle from Gelston Castle Estates who sold bullocks to £1250 and heifers to £1160.
17 Cast cows sold to £979.95 for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Graham, Irelandton and 155ppk for a Simmental cow from Messrs Brown, Drumhumphry.
A smaller show of 352 store hoggs to continue this seasons Monday sales being the dearest we’ve ever seen, topping at £129 for a pen of 38 Scotch Mule ewe hoggs from Messrs Harvey, Nethertown, Dunscore with Beltex to £128 for a pen of 6 from Messrs Murdoch, Fauld O’Wheat, Balmaclellan.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 16th February 2021 had some 1732 prime and cast sheep forward.
1453 Prime hoggs sold to average 276.2 ppk (SQQ 278.4). A grand show of hoggs were sharper on the week in all classes. Best bred hoggs were in short supply with these topping at 361.0 pence per kilo for a pen of Beltex from Messrs McConnell, Gass, Glenluce. Topping the sale was a Texel at £150 from Messrs Nicholson, Bombie, Kirkcudbright.
334 Blackface hoggs were forward, with 148 hoggs scaling over 39 kg averaging 271 ppk and 186 hoggs under 39 kg averaging 265 ppk. They topped overall at £127.50 for a pen of heavyweights from Messrs Statham, Laghead. With a pen of export weights from T S Farming, Tinwald Shaws, topping the pence per kilo at 280.7.
279 Cast ewes were sharper on the week with Messrs McConnell, Gass, Glenluce topping with a Texel ewe at £141 with Scotch Mules selling to £92.50 from Messrs Johnstone & Whitby, Wheatcroft, Castle Douglas. Blackfaces sold to £85.50 from Messrs Harvey, Nethertown, Dunscore.
