STORE, BREEDING AND OTM CATTLE

STORE LAMBS

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 16 August 2021 held their fortnightly sale of Store and OTM Cattle and Store lambs together with Breeding cows and calves.

 

Bullocks sold to £1310 for a Limousin from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo and 244ppk again for a Limousin from Glen Farm and heifers to £1240 for a Saler from Messrs Weir, Falbae and 262.2ppk for Limousins from Auchencairn Farms.  Bullocks sold to average £1044.38 and 224.88ppk with heifers to average £881.45 and 218.77.

 

33 OTM Cattle sold to £1357.74 for an Angus Cow from Messrs Craig, Compstonend and 181 ppk for a bull from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland.

 

James and Valerie Parker, Mill of Plunton began dispersing their stock with the Spring calving portion of the herd being offered, These sold to a top of £2000 for a Limousin cow with her Limousin Bull calf with a further quartet of units closely following at £1900.

 

2303 Store lambs at our second sale topped at £98 for a pen of Suffolks from Messrs Cumming, Barnsallie.  The pre sale show ably judged by Mr Alan Frame found his first prize in a pen of 25 smashing Texels from Messrs Walker, Hills of Dalserf realising £95 to the judge.  2nd prize was another pen of Texels this time from Messrs  Prentice Dallars Mains fetching £89.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 17th August 2021 had forward 1790 prime and cast sheep

 

1296 Prime lambs sold to average 240.64 (SQQ 241.79)

 

Top per head today was £126.50 twice firstly for Beltex lambs from Messrs Smith, Barmurrie and then from Lucy & Annie Barbour, Little Milton Farm for heavy Texels.  Topping per kilo was 296.2 for Beltex lambs again from Messrs Smith Barmurrie

 

Cast sheep sold to a top of £175 for Texels from Cogarth; Mules sold to £115 from High Borgue with Blackface to £100 again from High Borgue.
