TUESDAY 18 JUNE 2019

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 18th June 2019 had forward 855 prime and cast sheep.

658 prime lambs sold to average 211.9 SQQ 212.53.  All classes would be marginally less on the week, quality ¾ bred lambs would be 220-240 with first cross export lambs either side of 210.  More heavy lambs were forward, these were generally 200-210.  Top today was £113 for an outstanding texel from Douganhill Farms, Palnackie, Castle Douglas.  Top per kilo was a pen of texels from Messrs Wilson, West Barmoffity, Kirkpatrick Durham at 245.9.

A small show of hoggs sold to £97 for suffolks from Arvie.

Cast ewes were a roaring trade being as dear as has been seen in recent weeks especially ewes that weren’t overfat.  Many more required to meet the demand, it would be worth selling ewes as soon as they are weaned and before they get overfat.  Ewes sold to a top of £130.50 for texels from Lennox Plunton, mules sold to £84.50 x 2 from Backfell and Longbeoch, blackface sold to £84.50 from Glen.
