STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 2 August 2021 held their annual ‘Anniversary’ show and sale of 885 OTM and store cattle.
A great trade was achieved with several English buyers venturing across the border to buy the show of proper store cattle associated with Wallets Marts.
At the pre-sale show the judge Mr James Crichton from Cumbria awarded the champion ticket to a tremendous British Blue heifer, and the reserve ticket to a British Blue bullock both from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo, Castle Douglas which went on to sell at £1580 and £1300.
Bullocks sold to £1500 for a Simmental from Messrs Robb, Trolane and 315.5ppk for a British Blue from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo and heifers to £1580 and 331.9ppk for British Blue from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo. Bullocks sold to average £1031.42 and 235.18ppk with heifers to average £986.25 and 228.3ppk.
49 OTM Cattle sold to £1682.70 and 221ppk for a Limousin cow from Messrs Craik, Waterside.
The first sale of Store lambs saw 1847 sold to a top of £98 for Texels from High Auchneil. A good level trade saw strength £80+ with a few pens in the nineties. Most keeping lambs were from £75 – £80.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 3rd August 2021 had forward 1372 prime and cast sheep
920 prime lambs were forward to average 222.27. Lambs were a much smaller show and were similar to that seen on Monday around the country.
Top today was £126.50 for heavy Texels from Messrs Grierson, 25 Dunmuir Road and 293.8ppk again for Texels from Messrs Shaw, Killochy.
Cast sheep sold to £145 twice for Texel ewes from Messrs Watson, High Borgue and from Messrs Kerr, Fagra. Lighter ewes were noticeably less money with weight scarce these still realised great returns.
