WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd on Tuesday 24th November 2020, had forward 1933 prime and cast sheep.
1626 prime lambs sold to average 213.4ppk (SQQ 218.2).
A generally poorer show of 1626 lambs met a similar trade on the week. Smart lambs were, however, dearer and sold to £114 (307ppk) from Halket Leathes and £120 (301ppk) from Compstonend and £130 for a cracking Texel from Fagra. Top heavy weights was £105.50 for Suffolks from Messrs Parker, Mill of Plunton.
307 cast sheep sold and were easily sold, selling to £105 for a Texel ram from Kenmure, Dunscore, with ewes to £115 for Texels from Torhousekie. Scotch Mules sold to £87, also from Torhousekie, with Blackfaces to £80 from Dergoals.
In a campaign spearheaded by the Institute of Auctioneers, 6000 pupils from over a 100-school Home Economic Departments around Scotland will be cooking Scotch Lamb on St Andrew’s Day. Wallets Marts are proud to be supporting this campaign and, were donated six lambs from local farmers to go towards this.
