STORE, OTM CATTLE AND BREEDING HOGGS
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged their annual sale of Blackface and Scotch Mule hoggs, along with their fortnightly sale of store and OTM Cattle.
Blackface ewe hoggs were easily sold and well short of buyer’s requirements. 261 sold to average £172.03, a rise of £22.94 on the year. The sale topped at £600 for three tremendous hoggs from Messrs Burns, Craignell, selling to Alan Stewart.
Cross bred hoggs sold to £182 for Mules from Messrs McMillan, Edgarton with Hoggs and Ewes with lambs at foot selling to £110 for Scotch Mule ewe hoggs and singles from Lowes Farming. Ewes sold to £70 for cross bred ewes and singles from Messrs Johnstone, Bellymackhill.
A small show of Store cattle sold to £1140 for a British Blue bullock from Messrs Richardson, High Weirston and to 272.9ppkg for a Limousin heifer from Messrs McConnel, Gass, Glenluce.
OTM Cattle sold to £1386 for an Angus Cow from Messrs March & Lobban, Muncraig, Borgue.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly Primestock sale on Tuesday 8th June 2021.
403 Prime lambs averaged 320.31 (SQQ 320.43). Weight and meat was key and in demand, selling to £164 for heavy Suffolk X lambs from Gelston Castle, Castle Douglas. Top per kilo was 344.7 for Beltex lambs from Messrs Carr, Millhill.
Cast sheep were in short supply selling to £175 for Texel ewes from Messrs Craig, Glenhowan.
