PRICES EXCEED SELLERS EXPECTATIONS AT MAIN SOUTH WEST CATTLE SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Saturday 26th September 2020 held their annual show and sale of Autumn born suckled calves and store cattle, where some 1152 cattle were forward.
At the pre-sale show, sponsored by C.A.M. Engineering and judged by Mr N Matchett, Balig Farm, Ballantrae, he found his champion in the first prize single bullock a British Blue from Messrs Wharton, Snade, Dunscore – selling to £1380 (293ppk) to the judge. The reserve champion being the first prize heifer, a Limousin from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo, Castle Douglas – she fetched £1200 (300ppk). Out with the show cattle, all classes were a grand trade – these topped out at £1380 for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Messrs Bell, Redbank, Southwick and to 274.1 for Charolais bullocks from Messrs Clement, Gatehouse, Laurieston. Heifers sold to £1220 for Charolais from Messrs Williamson & Ross, Hillview, Castle Douglas and to 252.8 for British Blues from Messrs Hansell, Nether Barr, Corsock.

STORE LAMBS AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas on Monday 28th September 2020, had forward 1501 store lambs and 28 OTM cattle.
A good show of store lambs were easily sold, selling to £79 for Texels from Messrs Somerville, Waterhead, Terregles with Scotch Mules selling to £76.50 from Messrs Brown, Drumhumphry, Corsock, with Blackface lambs selling to £65.50 from Queensberry Farming, Breconside.
28 OTMs were forward, selling to 177ppk for Charolais from Auchenfad, with top price per head being £1410.66 for a Hereford from Trolane.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 29th September 2020 had forward 1955 prime and cast sheep.
1384 prime lambs sold to average 200 ppk (SQQ 203.9).
All classes were readily sold and would be slightly sharper than expected. Selling to £108 for heavy Texels from Messrs Newbould, Meikle Cloak, Dalbeattie and to 246.2ppk for Beltex from Messrs Adam, Torhousekie.
A larger show of cast sheep were a better show for quality, selling to £153 for Texels from Messrs Baird, Potterland, with Scotch Mules selling to £84.50 from the same home. Blackfaces sold to £61.50 twice from Culdoach and Glentoo.
