WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd had forward 2392 prime and cast sheep. 2000 prime lambs sold to an overall average of 198.45 with the SQQ reaching 205.4.
Prime lambs were all less than last week’s extreme rates, lambs scaling under 44 kgs were the easiest to sell and regularly exceeding £2 with export lean meated sheep selling to and in excess of £2.10. Heavyweight lambs were a struggle as was seen around the country with only an odd exception fetching over £95 topping at £100 for texels from Douganhill, Palnackie. Handy-weight lambs sold to £2.63 for Beltex lambs from RVCM Agri, Airyolland, Port William.
Cast sheep were also easier than last week’s high rates with a poorer show for quality in attendance. These topped at £130 for Texels from Bankhead, Cairnryan, Scotch Mules sold to £86.50 from High Currochtrie, Drummore.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on 9th November 2020 had another large show of OTMs forward and were easily sold, selling to 151ppk for a Limousin from Cardoness Farms and to £1072.10 gross for a Charolais from Nether Barr.
A smaller show of store cattle were forward, selling to £1315 for a Limousin heifer from Nether Barr with bullocks to £1120 for Aberdeen Angus’ from Redbank.
1157 store lambs were forward and sold sharper to a top of £84.50 for Suffolks from Mid Farthingwell.

ANNUAL SALER SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas held their Annual Show and Sale of Saler Cattle on 7th November 2020 on behalf of the Saler Society.
A limited show took place with only the commercial cattle being presented for the show.
Trade was animated throughout with averages leaping by considerable amounts.
Bulls sold to £10,500 from Messrs Boyd, Tiree for Drumaglea Nuggett and joined the Traboyack herd of Mr Wright.
Bulls also sold to £6300 from Messrs McClymont, Cuil, Palmure, and joined the Pulcree herd.
Bulls also sold to £5775 – Messrs Sleigh, Newseat of Tolquhon
– £4200 Messrs Lyle, Cambushinnie
Pedigree in calf heifers sold to £7350 for a tremendous heifer from Messrs Boyd, Tiree who had a wonderful days trading and sold other in calf heifers to £4200, £3780 (2).
Other in calf heifers sold to £3990 Cuil, £3570 Drumaglea, £3255 Cuil.
Pedigree females averaged £3578, an increase of £1189 on 2019.
Mr Wright of Traboyack Salers judged the commercial bulling heifers and his Champion pen and winner of the Willie Davidson Memorial Trophy along with Reserve Champion ticket, both went to Colin McClymont, who topped the sale at £1820. The Cuil heifers also made £1650 (10), £1600 (5), £1480 (9).
