513 Head Sold At Wallets Annual Show & Sale Of Spring Born Suckled Calves

ANNUAL SHOW AND SALE OF SPRING BORN SUCKLED CALVES

 

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged their annual show and sale of springborn suckled calves on Saturday 5th October 2019 when they sold 513 head.

 

All calves were shown in good bloom and despite ongoing issues with BREXIT and finished prices, met an animated demand selling dearer on the year.  Younger, smaller cattle were especially dear with many bullocks selling up and around £3 per kg.

 

At the pre-sale show the judge, Mr Rob Parrish, Hassendeenburn awarded the champion ticket to an outstanding Charolais cross bullock from regular consignors R Jardine & Son, Upper Hardland.  It went on to sell for £950 to J & A MacTaggart, Dunjop.  Reserve Champion came from McNeill Est., Shennanton with a Limousin X heifer which made £870 to Messrs Scott, Wigton.  First prize pen of 4 bullocks was awarded to Messrs Burgess, Maryfield with a pen of Limousin which sold for £765 and 1st prize pen of 4 heifers were also Limousin crosses this time from Messrs Armstrong, Farhills which made £700.  Top price of the sale was the third prize Limousin heifer from Messrs Burgess, Maryfield which scaled 292kg and made £1040 or 356p per kg selling to Hamish Hamilton, Derrie.

 

Outwith the show cattle a pen of Charolais crosses toppd at £915 from Shennanton and 300.5p per kg for another pen of Charolais crosses from the same home.  Heifers sold to £870 for Limousin crosses off Shennanton and 273.4p for Limousins off Farhills.

 

The whole sale finished £11 up on the year at £677.19 with bullocks averaging 234.5p per kg and heifers averaging 214.6p per kg.

RETIRAL / LEAVING COLLECTIONS

 

In the near future we will have 2 departures from the firm after a combined total of 80+ years service.

Robert Thomson (Rab) will retire from the firm on the 31st October 2019.

Robin B Anderson, Managing Director will be taking up a new post as

Head of Livestock with Aberdeen & Northern Marts.

Robin will leave the company on the 15th November 2019.
