Cumnock Under 16’s 15 v 19 Stewartry Under 16’s
Stewartry travelled to Cumnock with 13 players for this very tough friendly, so borrowed 2 willing lads from the opposition.
Right from kick off the blacks made their intentions clear with short ball to the forwards before releasing the backs. This was rewarded with an early try duly converted by A Picken.
Cumnock came back into the game with a brace of tries straight from the training ground, but poor defence aided their cause. Neither try was converted. After this wake up the Blacks got back on track with the forwards sucking in defenders to create space out wide, but good Cummnock defence kept them at bay.
It was not long before the pressure resulted with another great forward run and Connor McGuire getting the try. The second half became a stalemate until late in the game when cummnock got a debatable try which gave them a 15-12 lead with 7 mins to go.
One last push saw Frazer Potts brush off 3 players an run under the posts giving us 7 points. With barely time left cummnock ran through the defence with the line at their mercy only for new player Tommy McGrath on his debut running across the pitch to put in a try saving tackle securing a good hard fought victory for the blacks.
A huge performance was put in by all , well led by acting 10 Lochlann Spence, but the smallest player on the pitch deserves man of match-well done Archie Nicholson.
Next Sunday sees the team travel to Dalziel for the West Regional Cup competition. All players are required to be available as on the last meeting the team came unstuck.
