Stranraer 10k Road Race Results
This year’s Stranraer 10k road race took place on Saturday 1 November 2014 with 174 runners from all over the country lining up at the start at 12 noon. Runners aging from 15 – 70 years old dusted down the trainers to take part.
The 10k route commenced on Commerce Road and finished at Stranraer Academy Athletics Track.
The men’s winner was Robert Gilroy from Ron Hill Cambuslang with a time of 31.47 (the men’s course record set in 2007 is 30.41)
The first lady home was Jennifer Emsley from Arran Runners in a time of 37.08 (the course record was set in 2013 is 36.24)
First local Male – Stuart Templeton with a time of 40.17
First local Female – Francis Butler with a time of 45.16
All race finishers received a goody bag including a commemorative medal and t-shirt.
This year saw Phillip Heron complete the distance in his wheelchair. He had to complete 25 laps of the 400 metre track.
This year’s event was organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council, Stenaline, McCulloch coaches, Morrison’s, Rowan Glen, NHS and our main sponsor of the day Border Cars. Dumfries and Galloway Council would like to thank everyone involved in making this once again a successful event and are extremely grateful for all assistance and support which resulted in an excellent day.
Chair of Wigtown Area Committee Marion McCutcheon said;
“Congratulations to all the medal winners and runners, the times where incredible for all runners and they should be extremely proud of their achievements. It was heart-warming to see the support that was there for them. An inspiration to all was Phillip Heron, Wheelchair Athlete what an amazing person he is and what an accomplishment – 25 times round the field track the equivalent to 10K run. The day was a great success and I am looking forward to next year.”
