250 Schools Had Their Batons at the Ready!

Over 250 Primary School pupils from Nithsdale took part in the 4th annual 4x100m sprint relay competition at the David Keswick Athletic Centre running track on Tuesday 7 June 2016. 

 

The event, run by the Councils Leisure and Sport Active Schools and Community Sport Officers with assistance from Nithsdale PE Specialists, saw 23 local Primary Schools competing to see who will be ‘relay’ fantastic this year!  This is the largest number of schools and pupils participating since the event begun in 2013.

 

The competition was split into 3 categories; Small schools, P6/7 girls, P6/7 boys.

All pupils who took part in the races received a certificate of achievement, winners and runners up received trophies and medals.

Chair of Communities Committee, Councillor Tom McAughtrie said

“”There was another great turn out of children and schools at the David Keswick Athletic Centre and the standard of the young athletes was excellent. Maybe one of these young children will go on to be one of the next generation of great athletes from this country.”
