9 year old Heathhall primary karting ace Kieran Conchie travelled  to East of Scotland Kart Club in Crail last weekend to compete in the Scottish National S Plate Championship.

After 2 days testing racing began on Saturday afternoon with 2 heats followed on Sunday with the third heat. Kieran lined up 6th on the grid for the 12 lap pre-final and after the 2nd corner he was up to 3rd picking of the next 2 places to win and take pole for the grand final.

After 15 laps and 5 different leaders it all came down to the last lap with only one second covering the top 6. Kieran who began the last lap in 3rd timed his moves perfectly taking second with 3 corners to go and on the last corner placed the kart on the inside to take the lead and the chequered flag as Scottish Champion.

Kieran told DGWGO Sports news “This is such a huge achievement for me and now I can use the letter S on my kart for a year instead of a race number. Also I have been told I am only the 2nd 9 year old to have won this title in the 8-13 year old group”.

Kieran would like to thank Andy of Clan Racing, Russell at Sporting Warriors for his fitness training, Oakbank Services for their support, Craigsview Caravan&Trailer Centre and his sponsors who’s help has got him on the grid this season:
