ANNANDALE AND ESKDALE SPORTS ACADEMY RECEIVE FUNDING BOOST

EnergySolutions have again added their support to Dumfries and Galloway Council’s award winning Annandale and Eskdale Sports Academy for an eighth year in a row. Dave Wilson, Senior Vice President, Project Delivery for EnergySolutions recently made a surprise presentation of a £10,000 cheque at the Annual Annandale and Eskdale Sports Awards ceremony towards delivering a wide programme of sporting opportunities.
The initiative that has won national awards for the outcomes it delivers aims to provide young people with access to high quality sporting opportunities and to maximise the sporting potential of young people in the area. The academy also encourages participation through attracting high profile athletes from the world of sport to Annandale and Eskdale and visits to national sporting venues to inspire the next generation of athletes.
The funding provided by Swindon based company; EnergySolutions has gone a long way over the last seven years to improve sport for young people in Annandale and Eskdale. And although no longer the parent body organisation for the Chapelcross nuclear power site, the organisation were keen to retain links with the programme following a successful partnership with Active Schools and Community Sport for Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Dave Wilson of EnergySolutions said;
“EnergySolutions are proud to be associated with the Annandale and Eskdale Sports Academy for yet another year. It creates fantastic sporting opportunities for young people and also provides a platform for them to develop and grow. I know the £10,000 provided by EnergySolutions will enable the Sports Academy to continue their outstanding work.”
Chairperson of Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie said;
“We were delighted that Dave Wilson, Senior Vice President, Project Delivery was able to attend the Annandale and Eskdale Sports Awards evening and see first-hand the achievements of young sports people. It highlights the true benefits of what the Sports Academy delivers within our local community and we are delighted with the continued partnership. This continued funding is great news for the team that deliver the Sports Academy programme as they can provide children in the area with high quality and unique sporting opportunities.
I cannot stress how important this support is and how it helps create excellent opportunities for children across Annandale and Eskdale. We have witnessed young people progress as athletes and develop in a social capacity through the years as a result of this funding and it is widely recognised that the support from EnergySolutions goes a long way to enhancing the lifestyles of young people in our area”.
