Children from primary schools across Annandale and Eskdale gathered at the Everholm Running Track in Annan on Thursday 9 May for the Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Sprint Relay Finals.

The event, which is for Primary 4 to 7 pupils from small schools and Primary 6 to 7 pupils from large schools, is part of the Annandale and Eskdale PEPAS calendar of events sponsored by Magnox Limited and organised by Active Schools and Community Sport for Dumfries and Galloway Council

The prizes were presented by Keith Drysdale, Waste Manager, Chapelcross, Magnox Limited, who said: ”There was another great turn out of children and schools at the Everholm Running Track and the standard of the young athletes was excellent. Maybe one of these young children will go on to be one of the next generations of great athletes from this country.”

Councillor Jeff Leaver, Chair of Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning committee, said: “It’s great to see such a large turnout from schools for this sporting event and the encouragement shown to the children. This again demonstrates opportunities for children to be active and contributes to of Council’s priorities”
Councillor Ros Surtees, Vice Chair of Children, said: ”These events take many people to run and a special thank you must go to officials from Annan and District Athletics Club, Primary PE Specialists, and Young Sports Leaders from Annan Academy for their help with delivering this event.”
