Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Curling’s Cool Festival

The Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Curling’s Cool Festival took place on Friday 4th March at Lockerbie Ice Rink when twenty schools teams arrived at Lockerbie Ice Rink.
The competition was organised by Lockerbie Curling School for Lockerbie Ice Rink and was supported by the Active Schools and Community Sport Team from Annandale and Eskdale for Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Coordinated by Marion Murdoch, Curling Development Officer for Lockerbie Ice Rink, the Curling Festival is a firm fixture on the primary schools PEPAS sporting calendar. She was supported by a number of volunteer coaches from Lockerbie Ice Rink on the day to ensure the smooth running of the event.
The competition is the culmination of curriculum and after school curling over the winter months by all primary schools in Annandale and Eskdale to prepare them for the festival.
Following the completion of two sections the three top teams in each section progressed to the final stages with Eaglesfield Primary School defeating the team from Hoddom Primary School in the final. Children were further delighted with an appearance from Olympic Bronze Medallist, Anna Sloan who made the presentations.
Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie, Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee Chairman said” It is great to see so many young children and schools entering this annual competition once again. The team from Lockerbie Ice Rink have done an outstanding job developing young curlers into Olympian curlers over the years and hopefully some of these children will follow in their footsteps”

The results were as follows:
1st/2nd Place Game: Eaglesfield Primary beat Hoddom (3-0)
3rd/4th Place Game: Langholm Primary 1 beat Nethermill Primary (2-1)
