Close Call For Blacks As Cambuslang Win By 2 Points

Stewartrys 1st 15 squads first game for four weeks after the Autumn Internationals was away at fellow promoted team Cambuslang on Saturdayt 2nd December 2017 always hard opponents.

CAMBUSLANG 24pts STEWARTRY 22pts.

Stewartry kicked off into the wind and were awarded a penalty in the first minute in front of the posts. Craig Mosey despatched the kick with ease.

3-0 to Stewartry. The match ball was now produced and both teams were matching up to each other. Nine minutes in and Cambuslang won a scrum out on the left and from a planned move the pass inside gave the winger an easy run in at the posts for the opening try. The easy conversion was added. 7-3 Cambuslang.

Minutes later a high kick ahead was fielded by Stewartrys Davidson just inside the touch line but the home touch judge adjudged he stood on the line and from the resultant lineout Cambuslang won possession and ran through some weak Stewartry tackling to again score at the posts. The conversion added and Cambuslang were 14-3 ahead. Hogg at number eight for Stewartry made a number of charging runs into the Cambuslang 22 backed up Mosey , Fingland and Boyd but when the ball was lost the Cambuslang number ten cleared his lines back to the Stewartry 22.

On thirty minutes poor tackling again by the Stewartry backs allowed Cambuslang in for a third try and an easy conversion in front of the posts

21-3 and it looked along way back for Stewartry.

The Blacks never gave up and were rewarded with some good play involving Hogg again, Mosey, Taylor and Maxwell setting Muir and McCulloch

in with the latter scoring the first try. The conversion was missed and the referee blew for half time 21-8 to Cambuslang.

Stewartry made some changes at half time to freshen the scrum up and it paid of in ten minutes with a second try with both backs and forwards involved and it was Hogg who charged over for the second try. Mosey added the conversion.21-15 Cambuslang game on.

An injury to the Cambuslang full back held things up for a few minutes but from the restart Stewartry broke down the right wing involving six passes giving Davidson a try out on the right. Mosey added the conversion from out near the touchline to put Stewartry 22-21 ahead.

With only six minutes left Cambuslang took play into the Stewartry 22 and although Stewartry defended their line for the last five minutes a penalty award to Cambuslang in front of the posts giving Cambuslang the chance to win the game. The kick flew through between the posts and the referee blew for full time. 24-22 to Cambuslang.
