Newton Stewart U14 41 vs Stewartry U14 42
This Red v Blacks local derby was dominated by a strong wind favouring the team playing with it at their backs at Bladnoch Park on Sunday 6th of November . Both sides scored more when playing with the elements but despite this, and the chilled fingers, there was a lot of good rugby played by both sides.
Stewartry dominated the scrums and rucks while Newton Stewart had a more balanced backline. This is reflected by the fact that Stewartry scored their tries, mainly by Finn Baillie and Fraser Gibson, with direct runs through the heart of the Newton Stewart defence while Newton Stewart tended to go around the rather narrow Stewartry defence.
The man of the match for Stewartry was Fraser Gibson who led from the front, both with his tries and his tackles. Peter Young was also a key figure for Stewartry with several crucial tackles and, perhaps more importantly in a match that was won by only one point, all the conversion points.
