Callum’s Hat-Trick Heroics Lead Dumfries Cricket Club to Victory

Callum Cleans Up Against Greenock

Dumfries Cricket Club sides registered further wins against Greenock and Vale of Leven to sit top of their respective tables after the second league Saturday.

In their first home league match, the Dumfries 1st team, Your Move Dumfries, dismissed Greenock for 107 in Western Premiership Two. Opening bowler Alan Davidson took three early wickets, aided by a bowled from James Hobman. Then the Nith Valley Cleaning Player of the Match Callum Reynolds-Lewis cleaned up with a hat-trick to help reduce Greenock to 58 for 8. However, a stubborn ninth wicket partnership took the visitors to 107 all out with Reynolds-Lewis claiming five wickets.

The opening bowlers for Greenock also made life awkward for Dumfries and, just after they had completed their allotted twenty overs, the home side were 73 for 6, Chris Bellwood contributing 22.

Fergus Bainbridge then ushered Dumfries home with a solid score of 28, supported by a useful 10 not out by Jabarkhil, for a three-wicket win.

At Vale of Leven, in Western Championship Two, the Dumfries 2nd team dismissed the home side for a similar total of 93 with opener Lawrence resisting with 41. Opening bowler Nairn Cubbon took three wickets for the Player of the Match award and Harith Hassan took two wickets. Then the Nunholm openers imposed themselves by reaching the winning target rapidly for no loss of wickets. Skipper Scott Beveridge hit 45 and Simon McIntyre 25.

At Penrith, on Sunday, short boundaries played havoc with the bowlers’ figures. Penrith scored 242 with juniors Cory Dawson and Lachlan Osmond each taking two wickets, along with Dave Lightfoot. In reply the Dumfries Sunday XI fell short on 218 all out. Max Corbett-Byers top scored with 52 and Sultan Kamran hit 34. The Solway Insulation Player of the Match was Lachlan who also hit his top score for the side with 35.

Also on Sunday, local players were in successful action in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. For the combined Dumfries/Watsonians side at East Kilbride, Katy Anderson took two wickets and Niamh Muir and Orla Montgomery one each. Chasing 171 for 7, Niamh scored 27 opening and Orla hit 60 not out off 36 balls including nine boundaries to claim the Player of the Match and a four-wicket win.
