On Sunday 20th March, Dalbeattie High School was host to a Cricket World Cup themed indoor tournament which saw nearly 30 players – old and young, male and female, experienced and beginner – take part.
The first stage matches were close-fought and there were signs of great progress amongst all the teams, many of whom have been training twice a week throughout the winter. The ladies of the club put on tea/coffee and yummy cakes for all the players and charged a small fee to raise funds for the club’s on-going project to rebuild their pavilion in Gatehouse of Fleet.
After the first games had all been played Sri Lanka took on Australia in a competitive third-fourth place play-off which ended with Sri Lanka taking third place. The final was an extremely intense and exciting match which ended with New Zealand beating the West Indies by only 9 runs!
The club and its members are all getting prepared for the outdoor season which begins in April. We are always looking for new members to join – we welcome people of all ages and abilities and have something to offer boys, girls, men and women. Please feel free to get in touch with Natalie for more information: 07872909010.
Both the men and women play regular games – friendlies as well as league and cup matches. The men play in the Western District Cricket Union third and second divisions and the women play in the Western Women’s League and Scottish Cup. A team also plays in the local midweek league.
We are offering local businesses the chance to sponsor us this season.
