Davie Dazzles Despite Defeat – Dumfries Cricket Club Report

Nunholm 142-8 v Langloan 143-6

Langloan ran out winners with only a couple of overs to spare against Nunholm.

The fixture of the two top second eleven teams was affected by damp conditions and had a two hour delay before the start of play.  Langloan won the toss, which proved crucial as they put Nunholm into bat on a tricky wicket.  The start was stuttering as Nunholm lost early wickets, however David Davidson and Sam Thornley put on a determined display as they began to make the scoreboard tick by despatching the bad balls.  Thornley was eventually trapped LBW for 30, but it was Davidson who went on to deliver a crucial innings of 62 not out and again being the stalwart of the Nunholm batting lineup.  Nunholm finished on 142 for 8 off their 30 overs.

Langloan also started off watchfully, but Stuart Alexander accounted for opener Stevenson and then Jeremy Goodin began to work his way through the top order as he got two quick wickets to put Nunholm in charge.  Nunholm were on top for the early part of the match, however Stevie Allison from Langloan weathered the attack and managed to guide the tail of Langloan through a tricky period and put them comfortably ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis score.  Nunholm rotated the bowling around, but were unable to make the crucial breakthrough to secure victory and Langloan got over the line with a couple of overs to spare.

Nunholm picked up 5 bonus points from the match which was enough to secure promotion and a return to the Western Premier Reserves League for the 2019 season.  Nunholm will finish the season with a local derby against Galloway on Saturday at the glorious setting in Gatehouse of Fleet.
