Dumfries & Galloway Disability Sport have entered a team from Dumfries & Galloway to take part in the 2020 Special Olympics GB National Alpine Skiing Championships taking place in Crans Montana, Switzerland from 1st – 8th February 2020.
The team of 4 skiers accompanied by 3 coaches will compete at these National Games for the first time in a Special Olympics Winter Games. The athletes have been training hard on the dry ski slope in Carlisle, having only started skiing earlier this year. The progress of our group has been significant in a short time with them competing in their first competition in June and they are now ready to take the next step and compete in the slalom and giant slalom events at the GB championships in Switzerland next year.
The total cost of taking the D&G team to this event is £10,000 which will include their accommodation, food, flight and travel costs, ski wear and other team costs. Team members are contributing towards some of the costs, however there will be a shortfall in funding to take the team and the support staff/sports coaches to the event and our group are currently fundraising and seeking sponsorship, grants and donations.
We are respectfully asking for any donations or support from businesses to consider making a donation to our group to assist us with raising the essential funds for this fantastic opportunity. Any amount would be gratefully received and would assist in helping to reach our target.
