DOMINO PAIRS HIT THE ‘SPOT’ AT TORNBLAD TROPHY

The much coveted Tornblad Trophy for domino pairs was competed for by members of the Haill Six Incorporated Trades in the convivial atmosphere of the Masonic Arms on Friday night.

The trophy was presented to the Incorporated Trades by Neils Tornblad, a gentleman of Swedish descent who was employed at the Range at Townhead. The trophy, a replica of a cannon from the Swedish warship Vasa was presented to the Trades to commemorate the salvage of the ship in 1962. The fate of Vasa was sealed in front of thousands of people on her maiden voyage when a massive gust caused her to capsize and sink in the mid 1700’s.

At the best attended pairs competition for several years competition was keen. In a  tight and closely fought final, Jimmy Warren of the Squaremen and Stewart Ironmonger of the Weavers  narrowly defeated last years winners, Alan McAdam and Martin Valentine of the Hammermen and Glovers Trade.
