Entry for Scenic Doonhamer 10k Race Now Open

Dumfries Harriers are delighted to stage the Doonhamer 10k which will start and finish in the beautifully refurbished Dock Park, beside the River Nith in Dumfries.  The race will trace the pathways alongside the river and cross the river several times using the Buccleuch Street, Suspension and Kirkpatrick MacMillan Bridge.

A Spokesperson for the Dumfries Harriers told DGWGO Sports News “Come and run the Doonhamer 10K at 10.30am on Sunday August 25th 2019.    A fast and mostly flat course offering PB potential and small route changes providing a more flowing figure of eight course to the north and then south of the centrally located Dock Park, for much of the route following and crossing the River Nith.”

Taking in the vistas of Dumfries, starting in the award winning renovated Dock Park, passing the Robert Burns Centre and Devorgilla Bridge, crossing over the Buccleuch Street bridge and then over the extremely bouncy Suspension Bridge and Kirkpatrick Macmillan bridge, honouring another local who created the bicycle back in 1893.  A fantastic glide down the towpath to Kingholm Quay including the water station and half way there past the 5K mark. A quick loop at the southern end of the course and then back up into Castledykes and after the gentler push up Glencaple Avenue, the route drops down through Castledykes Park, and then a quick final Kilometer round the Dock Park and a fantastic finish back at Dockfoot.
