Dumfries Cricket Club Celebrate Women & Girls Sports Week

The Women’s section at Dumfries Cricket Club raised their bats to celebrate Scottish Women and Girls Sport Week which took place last week.

The group at one of the Sunday morning Women and Girls soft ball cricket sessions posed for a ‘Team Ashleigh’ photo at the start of the Scotland #SheCanSheWill campaign on social media. A campaign which was well supported by sports from all corners of Scotland.

And one of the participants, Sue Strachan, has some sunnier cricket involvement to look forward to as Scotland Team Manager when Scotland Women take on Ireland shortly, in Spain, in a series at the end of November.

As she describes these soft ball cricket sessions – “We want to give an opportunity for anyone interested, or even just curious, to come and have a go.”
“It’s all about fun. There is a lot of laughter. We can introduce women and girls to the game in a really positive supportive setting. There is no judgement. We are all learning together and having a laugh as we go.”

Dumfries Cricket Club are one of 12 Women and Girls’ Hub Clubs identified by Cricket Scotland across the country as providing a range of Cricket Scotland’s female specific programmes, which are in turn supported at the Club by the Women’s Cricket Sponsor Ashleigh Building.

If women or girls, or grannies, mums and daughters, are interested in the club’s soft ball sessions, or other programmes, or just want some more information about joining in with the female cricket at Nunholm in future then please contact [email protected] .
