Dumfries Cricket Club: West Representation For Dumfries Youngsters

The focus of last weekend for Dumfries Cricket Club was on West junior involvement with age-group representative selections and the club hosting a game for the Western Warriors on Sunday.

Playing for the Western Warriors u14s, Max Corbett-Byers was part of the side which achieved two T20 wins over the Cally Highlanders u14s on Sunday in Glasgow. He batted in two key partnerships in game two as they set up a winning total, plus he took the final wicket to complete the victory.

Sean Thornely featured in the top order playing for the Western Warriors u16s in the corresponding T20 fixtures against the Highlanders side at Freuchie. There it was the side from the North that came away with two reasonably close wins in two high scoring encounters and that was despite some good end-of-innings death bowling from Sean to keep the run scoring in check.

Meanwhile, Katy Anderson and Orla Montgomery were playing for the Western Warriors Women u18s in a development match at Nunholm. Club Chairman Andrew Reed said “At the club we are very proud of the commitment of all our junior players who have been selected in the West age-group ranks.”

On Saturday the big match of the day at Nunholm was the U11s Dynamos soft ball match, which this week involved the parents as well, and which just completed before a heavy downpour resulted in the abandonment of the seniors’ match in the afternoon. In the Coach’s report, Leo Wilson was commended for his all-rounder performance, Archie Coltart for his fielding efforts and Angus Pickstock for his bowling and for being on a hat-trick.

This Saturday is Family Day at Nunholm with a series of games; a soft ball Dynamos Cricket Festival in the morning and, in the afternoon, a T20 Midweek Cup Final, at last scheduled between James Hallam Youth and Galloway, which is carried over from last season!

In between, at 12pm, there is Womens and Girls Soft Ball Cricket, suitable for beginners, and for the more experienced, with the emphasis on fun during a day for the families at the club.
