Dumfries Defeat Uddingston in Final Over Finish – Cricket News

In the West Premier League on Saturday Your Move Dumfries beat visitors Uddingston as they hit the winning runs with five balls to go for a five wicket victory.

Uddingston set a challenging total of 231 for 7 when they chose to bat first. However the Dumfries opening partnership of Adam Malik and Scott Beveridge set the Nunholm side on course with an opening partnership of 121. Malik was stumped for 47 three runs short of a deserved fifty. However the Thomson and Jardine Player of the Match Beveridge carried on and had helped the score on to 171 for 2 when he was also stumped for 81. The required run rate was just under six runs an over and the Dumfries middle order did the necessary and Jesse Smit hit the winning runs off the first ball of the last over to finish 27 not out along with Alan Davidson undefeated on 13.

Earlier, Dumfries bowlers shared the wickets with Chris Brockwell taking three, Jesse Smit two and Alan Davidson one in an economical ten overs. A hundred run fifth wicket partnership between Lyons and Clarke set up the Uddingston total.

The 2nd team, Nunholm, also claimed a win in the Second Division. Again the bowlers shared the wickets with two each for Callum Reynolds-Lewis, Hyder Hussain and Sam Thornely as Langloan were all out for 116. Then the teenage combination of Max Corbett-Byers and Sean Thornely put on a third wicket partnership. Max top scored with 43 and Sean hit 26 not out to seal a 7 wicket win.

That was after the Dumfries u13s has a commanding win on Friday to win their Cup semi-final against  Penrith Green. A not out top score of 25 from Avi Chaturvedi and runs from Morgan, Ishmael, the Cubbons and Jasmine McCulloch totalled 124 for 4. The bowling was then too strong, including three wickets from Cory Dawson, to complete a 68 run win.

The fourth and fifth Dumfries wins of the weekend were by the Under-11s in a league and Cup double header on Sunday with two wins at two grounds against Kirby Stephens and Appleby. Both wins were comprehensive with all playing well. Cory Dawson, Keyaan Carpenter, Lachlan Osmond, Jack Cyfert and Isaac Ishmael scored runs across the two games and Macey Corbett-Byers, Sarah Cox and Gregor Martin claimed wickets.

At the same time the Sunday Development side were in the process of beating Lanercost in the Eden Valley Sunday League. The youngest members of the team did the damage with the ball. Harith Hassan claimed his first senior 5 wicket haul, Nairn Cubbon took 3 wickets for 7 and his brother Munro took the other bowler’s wicket early in Lanercost’s 141 all out. Then a fourth wicket partnership eased the side home with 41 not out by Mat Williams and a run a ball 39 not out by Max Corbett-Byers to complete a winning weekend for the Dumfries sides..

This Saturday, fifth placed Your Move Dumfries play league leaders Prestwick away in the West Premier League and Nunhom are at home to Galloway.
