Dumfries Lass Gets Her Skates On For Poland Trip

A local ice hockey starlet has this week flown out to Poland having been selected to represent Team Great Britain under 18 ladies. Solway Sharks Junior player Megan Mitchell, from Dumfries will take part in the 6-team tournament in Katowice, with GB facing teams from China, Korea, Norway, Austria and hosts Poland.

Megan’s Solway coach Jamie Kerr said of her selection, “It will be another great honour for Megan to pull on a GB shirt and represent her country. It underlines her phenomenal progress in the sport since coming to us in late 2015 and is testament to her attitude and desire. She has come on so much since playing her first game four years ago and her current selection is a much deserved reward having also missed the start of this season through injury. She is in her last year at u18s representing GB as a junior and will be expected to be an important player in these championships. She is yet another example of some of the quality national and international junior players our small club can produce.”
