Exhilarating Cyclocross Comes To Castle Douglas On Sunday

On Sunday November 20th, Castle Douglas Development Forum, along with Event Scotland, D&G Council, and Albannach are hosting the 6th round in the Scottish Cyclocross Series (SCX). This event is taking place at the Lochside Caravan Park and is expected to see 300 competitors race across six divisions.

Cyclocross is a part of the British Cycling organisation and is a form of racing which is a mix between road cycling, mountain biking and steeplechase. You can expect to see on the day skinny tyres, mud, short, sharp off-road races, with hurdles, obstacles, and intense action.

Jim Cameron, founder of Albannach and one of the event’s organisers says “After organising over 10 Cyclocross race events in and around Glasgow, I’m really excited to bring the Scottish Cyclocross Series to the town that I now call home for the first time and right across the road from my house! Cyclocross is an incredibly family friendly and safe format of competitive cycle racing. The course is completely traffic free, and the entire lap is edge marked. The racers are supported by event commissaries and marshals along the way. A cyclocross bike is recommended but it’s not mandatory so it’s a great way to get into racing. Cyclocross races live on energy and spectacle, so I would encourage the local community to come along on the day, ring a cowbell, bang a drum to make as much noise as possible to support the racers.”

Amanda Burney, CDDF’s Events Organiser states ‘This is set to be a spectacular day. Exciting racing, amazing atmosphere and tasty food and beverages for everyone. Cyclocross is a national sport and it’s the first time ever Castle Douglas is hosting one of the rounds for the Scottish Cyclocross Series. We are incredibly lucky to be able to host it here as it’s a real attraction. It is a perfect day for everyone and incredibly family friendly. Although, waterproofs are advisable!’

Race times for the day are as follows:
09:15 – U8/U10/U12 Race
10:05 – Youth Race
11:15 – V50+ Male Race
12:05 – Female Race
