A SPORTING FIRST AS ‘FOOTGOLF’ COMES TO DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Castle Douglas Golf Club are hosting footgolf for the first time in Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday the 14th of May 2016 !

The UK FootGolf Association in partnership with Castle Douglas Golf Club are holding the first ever Dumfries and Galloway event at on Saturday 14th May 2016. The event will be “kicking off” at 1.30pm and tee times are available and can be booked by calling Paul Doherty on 07714 671 495.

FootGolf is already played in various countries around the world, with the first tournaments being played in 2009, and introduced to the UK in 2012.

Similar to golf, the intent is to introduce a standard size 5 football into a hole with the foot, in the least amount of strokes possible.
The sport is played on a golf course, but the distance between the tee and the hole is flexible and scored as par 3s, par 4s and par 5s the same as golf.  FootGolf is a very “addictive” sport that combines the best of popular sports like football with an elite sport like golf. The beauty of this game consists in being able to strategically combine power and precision to achieve the goal.

The UK’s first FootGolf tournament was held at Sewerby Hall and Gardens near Bridlington on  September 2012, where the golf course was transformed into a FootGolf arena for the very first time, with players from around the UK and Hungary participating.

Event organisers Footgolf Scotland represented by Gary MacGregor, Paul Doherty of UK FootGolf  commented “We are looking forward hugely to this inaugural Dumfries and Galloway Event in May. Castle Douglas and the golf course in particular has world class scenery and the scene is set for a stunning event and fun filled tournament. The golf course will be adapted slightly and provides a testing but most enjoyable challenge”.

“Footgolf was launched in Scotland 2 years ago in Dunoon and since then has grown to now 10 courses throughout the country.  There is a Scottish tour where competitions will be held in Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Ayr, Edinburgh and the Highlands and we will be hoping to add Castle Douglas to the calander to ensure the South of Scotland doesn’t miss out as there are unbelievable prizes on offer with the winner of the Scottish tour going to represent the UK in a Ryder cup style tournament held in California in January.

The sport has seen huge interest equally from footballers, club golfers and from large corporate companies too, who see this is an exciting team building opportunity for their staff members.”
January 2016 seen the 2nd World Cup held in Argentina where the UK managed to reach the semi finals.

The Argentine Christian Otero became the individual world champion with the USA winning the team event.
