Footy Festival Fun In Annandale And Eskdale

The Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Football Festival sponsored by Magnox Limited took place at Lockerbie 3G Pitch on Friday 4 November.

Organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Active Schools and Community Sports Team, the festival was part of the PEPAS primary schools sporting calendar with a small and large schools event.

Following round robin and knockout matches Lochmaben Primary and Newington Primary progressed to the final in the large schools event. Lochmaben defeated Moffat Primary and Newington overcame Gretna Primary, both games finishing 2-1. Lochmaben went on to defeat Newington in the final.

In the small schools event Tundergarth/St Mungo Primary and Canonbie Primary progressed to the final where they played out a 0-0 draw with both teams rattling the woodwork. Tundergarth Primary was eventually named winners after a penalty shoot which finished 2-2 required sudden death penalties to split the teams.

Special Golden Boot Awards were also presented to five players as follows (pictured left to right): –
LARGE SCHOOLS – Joint Player of the Day – Kayn Cranston, Newington Primary School
LARGE SCHOOLS – Sportsmanship/Effort – Sadie Skinner, Gretna Primary School
SMALL SCHOOLS – Player of the Day – Thomas Forster, Canonbie Primary School
LARGE SCHOOLS – Joint Player of the Day – Kit Armstrong, Moffat Primary School
SMALL SCHOOLS – Sportsmanship/Effort – Bellamy Anderson, Beattock Primary School

Chairman of Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Ronnie Ogilvie said;

“It is good to see so many schools, volunteers and young leaders coming together to deliver an enjoyable morning of football. There was some excellent football being played and we have some very talented young players in the area.”

Jill Callander from Chapelcross on behalf of Magnox Limited who was there to hand out the trophies said;

“It is fantastic to see children being offered these opportunities of inter school competition and everyone had an enjoyable morning of football. We are delighted to sponsor the primary schools sporting calendar that offers so many opportunities to the children.”
