The Dumfries and Galloway Council run Dumfries Ice Bowl will play host to an international ice hockey tournament later this month.
From 28 to 30 December, an Under 16’s ice hockey tournament featuring Team GB, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands will take place at Dumfries Ice Bowl. The tournament, run on the back of last year’s successful tournament featuring the same teams held in Spain. The Dumfries venue is no stranger to world class ice hockey, having played host to three world championship events in the last 5 years.
The first match faces off at 4.30pm on Wednesday 28 December, when Netherlands go up against Spain. There are matches on Thursday too, before the tournament comes to an end on Friday 30 December.

Dumfries and Galloway Council Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning Chairman, Councillor Jeff Leaver is looking forward to the Ice Bowl hosting the event. He said;
“Dumfries Ice Bowl has a great record of playing host to world class ice hockey, and indeed curling and skating. I am sure the visiting teams will enjoy Dumfries, and I hope that fans will come out in force to watch the action on the ice with the tournament coming at a time when many enjoy a festive break. “
The Council’s Events Champion, Councillor Colin Smyth commented;
“The event brings economic benefits for the region in terms of tourism and hotel accommodation. Our Council’s number one priority is to build the local economy so it is important we continue to host and support tournaments such as this one. I would like to wish all the players and spectators an enjoyable time in Dumfries, and hope they all have safe trips to and from the region, and hope they return in the future.”
Tickets are on sale from www.ticketweb.co.uk or the Midsteeple Dumfries, or on the door on the day and tournament tickets are priced at £10 per adult and £5 per child.
