It’s a Ball at Nithsdale Fun5z Netball Festival

15 teams from Primary’s across Nithsdale attended the Dumfries and Galloway Council Fun5z Netball Festival held at Maxwelltown High School on Tuesday 31 May. 

There were 92 girls competing in the festival, which was split into a round robin format across the 3 courts before finals stages.

 

The top 8 teams qualified to the quarter finals stages, followed by semi-finals and finals.  Winning a hard-fought final was Troqueer A, Heathhall scooped the with Silver Cargenbridge A winning Bronze.

 

All the girls displayed great sportsmanship and members from the Dumfries Blue’s Netball club were talent spotting on the evening and have invited girls to attend their training.

Councillor Tom McAughtrie, who is Chairman of the Council’s Communities Committee said;

 

“Well done to everyone who took part, and especially well done to Troqueer for lifting the title.  Events like this are great for schoolchildren, to allow them to socialise with existing friends as well as meet new ones.  Our Council is committed to giving children the best possible start in life and providing fun filled sports festivals allows us to work towards this commitment.

On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank all the umpires and volunteers who assisted at the event.”

 

Lee McLean from Netball Scotland was in attendance and said;

 

“I am delighted to see so many girls participating in such a well organised event.”
