Six Dumfries and Galloway Junior Solway Sharks players are delighted to have been selected for Great Britain Ice Hockey teams.
Lewis Houston and Ruairi Lockerbie are both in the Solway Sharks Juniors Under 16s team, and were thrilled to be selected as part of the GB U16s squad. GB Under 16s was set up earlier this year as a means of identifying players who may be suitable for GB teams earlier in their playing careers.
Duncan Speirs who also plays for Solway Sharks in the NIHL has been selected for the GB Under 20s team. Duncan is travelling to France this month to play for GB in the World championships, where he will be joined by former Junior Shark Josh Grieveson.
Defenceman Stuart Kerr and netminder Kyle Johnston who both play for Solway U20s and the Solway Sharks senior team are delighted to have been selected for the GB Under 18s squad.
Rebbeca Nicol who plays for Solway U20s has been selected for the GB Women Under 18s squad, and was thrilled to play with the team in a recent tournament.
Solway Juniors Chairman Graeme Houston said, “Everyone at the club is extremely proud of all these players in this fantastic achievement. We are a small club, to have one player picked at GB level would great, but to have a total of 6 players in 4 different Great Britain squads is remarkable. All the players involved have put in a tremendous amount of effort on and off the ice to make the respective GB teams, and it is gratifying to see their commitment and hard work paying off. Their success is testament to their dedication to their sport, and we at the club all wish them every success going forward.”
