Today Monday 20th of February 2017 saw the entries for Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon, Beeches Run and The walk all open, the Date of the events this year is Saturday the 27th of May.

The Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon race and walk were established in 1983 to raise money for the School Funds. Since then, the event has been raising funds for the school benefiting decades of local children. The Beeches 11.2 K was added 8 years ago to offer a shorter race and one that pupils under 18 years could entre.

Every year hundreds of runners and walkers join in from all over the UK. Our entrants range from the highly competitive (and fast!) to the first time racers. Many, particularly the walkers, choose to use the event to raise money for charities. The event is run entirely by volunteers from school staff, pupils, parents, local Rotarians and the local Summer Festivities group. The team all look forward to welcoming back race regulars and welcoming new entrants.  Come along with friends and family to support the school, enjoy the stunning Galloway scenery and take part on one of the most beautiful routes in the country!  For the second year on the trot DGWGO will be sponsoring the runners numbers.

The three events:

• The Half Marathon (18yrs+) – start: 1pm
• The Beeches 11.2k (15yrs+) Run – start: 1pm
• The Walk (open to all ages ) follows the half marathon route – start: 11am (not a race)

All finishers of each of the 3 events receive a medal, water, home (well, school!) baked goodies and donated fruit.

There is a also a Family Fun Run (1.5 miles) organised by Kirkcudbright Primary school and entry for this is on the day only.

There is a dedicated parking area behind the school grounds – follow signs for the swimming pool. There are changing rooms and showers in the school but unfortunately we can’t provide secure lockers.
