Walking Football in Kirkcudbright has resumed after the festive season break. It is designed to help adults over 50 to get fit or to maintain an active lifestyle whatever their footballing ability. People who play regularly have enjoyed lower heart rate and reduced blood pressure, reduced fat, greater muscle strength and improved mobility.

A one-hour session of walking football is equivalent to a 3-mile brisk walk and burns approximately 500 calories. It’s a great way to exercise.

And it’s not just about health. Walking football is social and friendly. There’s a positive and supportive vibe. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy a breath of fresh air, have a laugh and some good banter. Players have described it as “Great fun”, with one player saying, “Never has an-hour-and-a-half of football contained so much laughter. Smiling faces and courtesy”

Sessions have resumed at Saint Cuthbert wanderers football pitch after the Christmas break and are on Monday evening and Thursday lunchtime every week. If you’re interested in giving it a go or finding out more about it:
