Dumfries ladies Cricket Club and Galloway ladies Cricket club Combined forces and set off in the sunshine to travel the long miles to Edinburgh and play George Watsons in the Womens Premier League at Corstorphine.
The pitch was in beautiful condition, the ground looked great and the team warmed up full of positivity and purpose. Rosy Ryan (capt) won the toss and chose to field first. She put on the young strike bowlers Orla Montgomery and Niamh Muir and with some accurate pacy bowling and good energy in the field, the GWCGCC young openers struggled to make headway scoring only 13 off the first 6 overs and losing 3 wickets in the process -all clean bowled!
DCC/GCC bowlers Jess McCulloch and Nat Hamblin both had spells with 2 maidens a piece and Jo Williams, Laura Scobie, Rosy Ryan and Amanda Creedon Bass also kept the mantra of line and length with fielders working together to keep the score down.
Rosy brought Orla and Niamh back in and they worked their way through a brave young set of GWC batters bowling them all out for 71. Orla with 5 wickets and Niamh with 4. Dumfries CC and Galloway CC chased that down in just under 22 overs with the loss of only 3 wickets.
Rosy Ryan 21 not out and Jess McCulloch 17 the pick of our batters. Fielding special mention goes to Julie Mcculloch for her diving stop!Great team and individual efforts!
We go forwards to next week with a home game against Ed Sth/ Stew Mel at Nunholm on Sunday 23rd June.
