The fun run has been revamped this year to include school children, family groups and women and girls; teams are also welcome.

Running and jogging has become very popular in the last few years with many of our running clubs seeing a huge increase in members. The introduction of the Junior Park Run at Dock Park every Sunday has also seen an increase in families enjoying running. The Mabie Mile also falls mid-way through Active Schools & Community Sport’s Super 5s cross country league which has also seen growth every year.

Although the event is a fun run with no prizes, we are encouraging runners to take selfies, using our new selfie boards, at the end of the race and share their personal achievement through social media. Our Women, Girls & Physical Activity Co-ordinator, Charlotte Grieveson, will be looking to increase physical activity opportunities for women and girls across the region and the Mabie Mile forms is an excellent opportunity to encourage women and girls to take part, as individuals or as a group.

Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the CYPLL committee, said: “The event is a fun run and there are no prizes but we’re encouraging runners to take selfies at the end of the race, using our new selfie boards, and share their achievement on social media. Running and jogging have become very popular again in recent years, with many running clubs seeing a big increase in membership. The introduction of the park run every Sunday has also seen an increase in family groups participating in running. So, get your trainers on and come along to take part in the Mabie Mile.”

To register for the Mabie Mile email [email protected] including the runners name, year group, school (if school age), race category (Primary, Secondary, Family, Women & Girls) and an emergency telephone number.

For more serious runners there is a sister event, the Mabie Trail Race (10k), which will take place on Sunday 11 June; enter online at www.entrycentral.com
