Nunholm Win 2 in a Row – Cricket News

Nunholm have kept alive hopes of avoiding relegation by beating Bothwell.

Bothwell won the toss and chose to bat and they got off to a solid start as Din and Rai negotiated the opening spell from Cox and Goodin.  It was Reed who made the breakthrough running out Din for 15.  Bill and Rai then went on to build a steady innings, until Beveridge stepped up and dismissed Rai LBW for 42.  Nunholm enthused by this wicket began to put further pressure, as Newport had Clarke caught and Beveridge picked up his second wicket.  Bothwell batsman Martin held firm with a bit of luck, as he was dropped on the boundary as he passed his 50. The resistance was finally broken by Goodin, and Bothwell who would have been targeting a score of over 200 hundred slumped to 195.

Nunholm got off to a fast reply going at 6 an over, but openers Elliott and Irwin both fell to catches in the ring as the reached double figures.  David Davidson rolled back the years and provided a solid innings which the Nunholm batsmen supported.  The drinks break, as so often happens, broke Davidsons concentration and he slapped a catch to cover.  Beveridge and Cox were now at the crease, and the nerves of the watching crowd were eased as they set about blocking good delivering’s and smacking the bad ball.  Cox looking for his maiden 50 of the season began to get impatient and after hitting a powerful back foot six over the bowlers head, tried to go big again towards the mid wicket boundary, but a good catch from Dunne saw Cox return to the pavilion for 41.  Beveridge eased passed his 50 and support by Gurupal Singh they knocked off the final runs to win the match with 4 overs to spare.  One more fixture remains of the season, Nunholm who looked certainties for relegation, now know that 1 more victory could see them survive in the Premier Reserve division.
