ONE POINT GIVES STEWARTRY U16’s THE WIN

Kilmarnock Under 16’s – 24  Stewartry 16’s – 25

This was always going to be Stewartry’s toughest league game of the season and it proved to be so.  Kilmarnock played to their strengths, and kept it in the forwards at every opportunity, but Stewartry’s defence held firm.  Stewartry got the first points on the board after 10 minutes, David Martin the scorer.  Kilmarnock replied and converted to take the lead.  The lead changed hands for most of the match with Stewartry coming back from 20-24 to win the match with a try from Fraser Forsyth in the corner in the last 10 minutes.

Team all played well in what was a bruising encounter, but all credit goes to man of the match Matthew Coupland who stepped In to scrum half due to injury to regular Archie Nicholson, and played a good steady game, getting ball out to the backs as often as he was able to.

Connor McGuire & Archie Holman both put in some great charging runs with Connor winning a lot of opposition ball in the rucks.

So a great typical Stewartry/Kilmarnock bruising encounter with the Blacks digging in right to the very end.  Looking forward to the return fixture in a couple of weeks.
